FLOODPLAINS AND RIVER NETWORKS
Institute of Ecology, University of Georgia, Athens, GA (for
PostDoc) or Eco-metrics, Inc., Atlanta, GA (for Advanced Research Analyst)
NOTE: Applicants with an M.S. must have extensive post-graduate research
experience and an ongoing record of scholarly publication.
DURATION: 1 year, with extension dependent upon funding.
DUTIES: A Postdoctoral Research Associate (or M.S.-level Advanced
Research Analyst) with expertise in hydrologic & hydrogeologic modeling
and spatial applications in ecology will participate in ongoing research
on the hydrology and biogeochemistry of fluvial landscapes (e.g.,

The Complex Systems Laboratory,
Department of Geography,University of Montreal
is seeking doctoral candidates to work on a project in multi-agent
modelling. The project involves the development of a multi-agent model
of the spatiotemporal movement of marine traffic and marine mammals in
the St. Lawrence estuary that can be used as a
decision support system to explore the effects of different zoning
scenarios on this unique ecosystem. The project is part of an NSERC
strategic project and will be undertaken in close collaboration with
non-university partners: Parks Canada, Ministry of Fisheries and
Oceans and the GREMM (Groupe de recherche et d??duation en mammif?res
marins) as well as 3 university partners: Danielle Marceau, Geomatics
Engineering, University of Calgary; Jacques-Andr? Landry, Production
Automatis?e, ?cole de Technologie Sup?rieure and Lael Parrott,
Geography, University of Montreal.
The doctoral candidate?s project will involve modelling the activities
(behaviour and spatiotemporal movement) of marine mammals in the
estuary. The project will be undertaken under the co- supervision of
Lael Parrott (Montreal) and Danielle Marceau
(Calgary). The candidate must have a master?s degree in geography,
environmental science, biology or a related field and have experience in
programming and/or modelling.
A bursary of $19,000 for 3 years (starting in January 2007) is available
