GRSA and other Graduate Student Fellowships at UM
Posted on November 28, 2007
The Program on Human and Environment Systems Interactions (PHESI) is
seeking a graduate student with experience in object-oriented
programming, agent-based modeling and statistics, and (preferably)
interests in environmental sustainability and common-pool resource
dilemmas, for the Winter term 2008. The student will work
individually and with the team 15-20 hours per week to develop, test,
and conduct experiments with agent-based models of forest resource use
by villagers in the developing world. Pay is $5,297 to $7,568
(depending of fractional appointment) for the semester, plus health
and tuition benefits.
Please send statement of interest and experience, along with a
one-page resume to Natalie Dushane nadushan@umich.edu no later than
Dec 14.

Graduate Student Research position -- microbial risk assessment
Graduate Student Research position open to work on microbial risk
assessment project using transmission models to examine Norovirus
exposures through drinking water
Research is focused on using epidemiology-based disease transmission
models along with simple fate and transport exposure models to develop a
framework for assessing risk of disease from the exposure to media
contaminated with enteric pathogens. Work involves constructing models
for Norovirus transmission. This work will occur in the three following
steps: 1) Synthesis of data found in the literature to provide parameter
estimates for the model and to identify outbreak data that can be analyzed
using our transmission model; 2) Development of transmission models.
These models will be generally individual-based stochastic model and the
development phase will involved programming; and 3) Simulation and
analysis of model output to gain insight into the uncertainty and
sensitivity of the model output.
Looking for graduate students at the Masters or Doctoral level. There is
potential for dissertation topics.
Applicant should have an interest in environmental health, infectious
disease epidemiology and have basic quantitative, programming and
statistical skills. Prior experience with disease transmission models
would be useful but not required.
Interested applicants should contact Joe Eisenberg by email
(jnse@umich.edu).
There are no fellowships positions posted at UM.
